NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INCENTIVE
FEBRUARY 15, 2022 – 6:00 P.M.
Notice is hereby given that the Burke County Board of Commissioners will hold public hearings at 6:00 p.m. (or as soon thereafter as persons may be heard) on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, in the County Board Room, Burke County Services Building, 110 North Green Street, Entrance E, Morganton, NC for the purpose of giving consideration to and approving the expenditure of public funds to assist with the location of:
Project It’s About Time - Burke County. Project It’s About Time, a local company proposes to build a 500,000 square foot building at the Burke Business Park in phases. The company would invest approximately $25 million over 5 years. Approximately 23.6 acres with a market value estimated at $944,000 would be conveyed to the company as part of a local incentive. The Board of Commissioners believe the project will stimulate economic activity, will result in the creation of approximately 72 new jobs, help stabilize and increase the tax base and create additional revenues in the County.
Project Bravo is located in Burke County (Morganton). Burke County is applying for a $200,000 Building Reuse grant on behalf of Project Bravo, which requires a $10,000 local match, which will be split equally with Morganton. The County’s assistance also includes an economic development grant equal to 50% of the new taxable investment paid by the company for a period of three (3) years totaling +/- $42,742.50. This grant serves as the match for a $75,000 OneNC grant. The Board of Commissioners believe the project will stimulate economic activity, will result in the creation of approximately 25 new jobs, help stabilize and increase the tax base and create additional revenues in the County.
Project Highlander located in Burke County (Morganton). The City of Morganton is applying for a $200,000 Building Reuse grant on behalf of Project Highlander, which requires a $10,000 local match, which will be split equally between the County and the City. The County’s assistance includes an economic development grant equal to 50% of the new taxable investment paid by the company for a period of three (3) years totaling +/- $54,210.00. This grant serves as the match for a $250,000 OneNC grant. The Board of Commissioners believe the project will stimulate economic activity, will result in the creation of approximately 100 new jobs, help stabilize and increase the tax base and create additional revenues in the County.
