The health department and Carolinas Healthcare System Blue Ridge received notification that for the next three weeks they will receive a reduced shipment of vaccine. The health department is only receiving 200 first doses and the hospital is only receiving 500 first doses. So, the schedule for appointments will fill up quickly and then the call center will not take any further appointments.
Everyone 65+ interested in scheduling an appointment will need to call the Community Call Center at 358-4454 and keep calling until you get through to make an appointment.
Burke County has not wasted nor thrown away any COVID-19 vaccine.
We are asking that everyone please be patient and understand that everyone who wishes to receive a vaccine will eventually get one, but it will not happen in a couple weeks. There is more demand for the vaccine than there is supply to anywhere in the State or nation.
If you want your concern and voices to be heard then you will need to contact your state legislative representatives, the Governor, and your federal legislative representatives. They are the only ones that can help get more vaccine in to NC and Burke County.
Even though you receive the COVID-19 vaccine, you will still need to practice the 3 W’s prevention for a while until more people receive the vaccine.
We appreciate your patience as we try to vaccinate those eligible and interested as fast as possible.
