Burke County’s Response to COVID-19

• Burke County is currently at 8419 positive cases. These are cumulative cases for the county. If you want to see a breakdown of the cases, please go visit the https://www.burkenc.org/dashboard webpage

The numbers continue to stay high because of the holiday gatherings and travel.

Carolinas Healthcare System Blue Ridge is in the process of scheduling those aged 65+ for community clinics but can only schedule weekly based on the amount of vaccine determined to receive so it will take a while to vaccinate this group based on receiving limited supplies of the vaccine and the large demand expressed among residents. The State has assured that health departments will receive baseline vaccine allocations for the next three weeks.

Everyone 65+ interested in scheduling an appointment will need to call the Community Call Center at 358-4454 and keep calling until you get through to make an appointment.

Burke County has not wasted nor thrown away any COVID-19 vaccine.

We are asking that everyone please be patient and understand that everyone who wishes to receive a vaccine will eventually get one, but it will not happen in a couple weeks. There is more demand for the vaccine than there is supply to anywhere in the State or nation.

Even though you receive the COVID-19 vaccine, you will still need to practice the 3 W’s prevention for a while until more people receive the vaccine.

We appreciate your patience as we try to vaccinate those eligible and interested as fast as possible.
