On behalf of the DSS Board of Directors I am pleased to announce the appointment of Korey Fisher-Wellman as the new Department Director effective November 27, 2019.
Mr. Fisher-Wellman currently serves as a Social Work Supervisor with Catawba County DSS, and before that was a clinical program manager and outpatient therapist/intensive-in-home services team leader with that department. All told, he comes to us with 14 years of direct DSS experience.
He is a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne University (BA, Psychology); Appalachian State University (MSW); and will graduate from UNC Chapel Hill in December with a Master of Public Policy. He has also completed the UNC School of Government’s Effective Supervisory Management in Public Service Program. In addition, he holds a license to practice clinical social work (LCSW), and is recognized as an adoption component clinician by the Center for Adoption Support and Education.
I believe Mr. Fisher-Wellman to be a forward-thinking leader with proven problem-solving skills and the capacity for innovation and creative thinking. In short, our board is confident that Mr. Fisher-Wellman possesses the tools, capabilities, and expertise necessary to lead Burke County’s DSS into a new era of service and support for our citizens.
We wish to extend our profound gratitude to Kathy Craig, Interim Director. She has lead the department during this transition with skill, grace, and good humor.
