Overview
The Safe Kids Burke County Coalition is part of Safe Kids Worldwide and Safe Kids North Carolina. Safe Kids is dedicated to the prevention of accidental childhood injury, which is the leading cause of death of children ages 14 and under. The Burke County Health Department is the lead agency for Safe Kids Burke County.
The coalition consists of members from county and community agencies, including public health, emergency management, law enforcement, fire and rescue and community advocates. Safe Kids Burke County educates children, parents and caregivers through a variety of activities and events:
- Child Passenger Safety Inspections (Car Seat Checks) by Appointment
- Child Passenger Safety Presentations
- Health and Safety Fairs
- Bike Rodeos
- Medicine Drops
About Safe Kids Worldwide
Safe Kids Worldwide is a global organization dedicated to preventing injuries in children, the number one killer of kids in the United States.
Safe Kids works with an extensive network of more than 600 coalitions in the United States and partners with organizations in 23 countries around the world to reduce injuries from motor vehicles, sports, drowning, falls, burns, poisonings and more. Since 1988, when Safe Kids was founded there has been a 55% decrease in the unintentional injury rate among children 19 years and younger.
The mission of the coalition is to create safe community initiatives in Burke County through community education and events for children ages 0 to 14 and their parents and caregivers. Safe Kids Burke County offers a variety of information and education on child passenger safety, poison/medication safety, fire safety and bike and helmet safety and more.

Permanent Checking Stations
Inspections involve checking current installation of child safety seats, checking for recalls and, if needed, a demonstration on how to properly install a child safety seat. Inspections are held by appointment only.

We sell new car seats at reduced prices:
- Convertibles (Rear and Forward Facing): $60
- Combinations (Forward facing and belt positioning booster): $60
- High Back Boosters: $30
- No Back Boosters: $20
All car seat sales are final and nonrefundable.
